During the week of November 18th-22nd, TMA at UTSC hosted an annual Ashura Awareness Week to commemorate the martyrdom of the Prophet’s Grandson, Imam Hussain (a.s.) during the battle of Karbala. We planned to spread the theme of social justice through a series of events including an art exhibition, information booth, lecture program, and charity drive, as well as through the distribution of free hot chocolate to students on campus.
“In 680 AD, on the deserts of modern day Iraq and against an army of 30,000, Hussain stood and fell to defend those around him being oppressed. In his death he inspired millions around the world… Hussain’s message of selfless compassion lives on.” (www.whoisHussain.org)
